You can never cease to be amazed at what comes up again and again as new, but really isn’t. The “new” Microsoft Tablet PC is just the latest example.

These are old news. Consider the Apple Newton, the first tablet to come along. Still lots of these in use today.

Consider, I have two NCR 3125 tablet PCs which can run Go PenPoint, GEOS, Windows for Pen, PenRight or PenDOS. These dated from 1991 or 1992. If you look at the physical envelope of the 3125, it’s nearly identical to the new tablets.

Palm has arguably made pen computing work right for the “rest of us”. What I really want is a PalmOS computer in the same form factor as the new tablets, or my old NCR 3125.

Some of you may recall that I wrote an article Palm in a Slate in April of 1999 calling for this. What you may not know is that I wrote and shopped a business plan based on that article.
